We are currently experiencing dropped calls impacting Talk functionality across all Pods. Twilio have confirmed the issue and are investigating.
Total Impact Duration: Seventeen minutes
On November 13, 2018, at 1:46 AM UTC, our Talk monitoring started showing calls dropping across all Pods.
This was due to an outage at our Talk provider's level which they immediately acknowledged. According to our provider, the issue was caused by the deprecation of an internal service responsible for serving account data to downstream services.
Due to human error made in the deprecation plan, another service responsible for in-flight call modification continued to make requests to the deprecated service's endpoints, which failed because the service was no longer available.
In order to reestablish functional service, the deprecated service got temporarily reenabled until the in-flight call modification service gets amended accordingly.
Remediation items from our Talk partner include improvement of the planning process and additional service deprecations coordination to reduce the likelihood of human error in such circumstances.
